The Making it Work Program offers:
- Five individual interactive on-line modules (approximately 1-2 hours each), covering topics such as work and arthritis; management of inflammatory arthritis; disclosing diagnosis of arthritis at work; dealing with fatigue and stress at work; effective communication strategies; legal issues around employment, disability, and job accommodations; optimizing interpersonal relationships at work; ergonomics for your work environment and obtaining job accommodations.
- (OPTIONAL) If you request it, we can refer you to a Making it Work Program trained Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor (VRC) health professional, to provide personalized employment counselling ($100.00 Can). This service is not included in the program cost, but if you have employee benefits or private insurance, the services of a VRC may be covered by your private plans. It is not necessary to meet with a VRC to join this program.
The Making it Work Program for the Randomized Controlled Study Trail (no longer offered) included:
- Five individual interactive on-line modules (approximately 1-2 hours each), covering topics such as work and arthritis; management of inflammatory arthritis; disclosing diagnosis of arthritis at work; dealing with fatigue and stress at work; effective communication strategies; legal issues around employment, disability, and job accommodations; optimizing interpersonal relationships at work; ergonomics for your work environment and obtaining job accommodations.
- Five online video group meetings (approximately 1-1.5 hours each), facilitated by a trained facilitator. These meetings provided study participants with opportunities to meet peers and to share issues related to arthritis and work experiences, and to practice skills presented in the corresponding eLearning modules.
- Two online consultations with health professionals. Study participants met with an occupational therapist (OT) to conduct an on-line ergonomic assessment of their work environment, and met with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor (VRC) for personalized employment counselling.
